SA 387 Grades 11 and 22
SA 387 is a pressure vessel quality steel utilized for higher temperature and/or corrosive resistant applications in power plant, refinery or petrochemical industries. The chemical requirements of Grade 11 include 1.25% chrome and 0.5% molybdenum while Grade 22 requires 2.25% chrome and 1% molybdenum. USA stocks thicknesses from .189" to 4.0" in Grade 11 and to 3.0" in Grade 22. Both inventories contain plates complying to either class 1 or 2 in the normalized and tempered condition.
4140
4140 is a steel of relatively high hardenability. Its chromium content provides good hardness penetration, and the molybdenum provides uniformity of hardness and high strength. 4140 responds readily to heat treatment and is comparatively easy to machine in the heat-treated condition. With a combination of such highly desirable properties as good strength and wear resistance, excellent toughness coupled with good ductility, and the ability to resist stress at elevated temperatures, it is understandable why 4140 is widely used in numerous applications.
Universal Steel America stocks 4140 in the As Rolled, Annealed & Pre-hardened condition from 3/16" thru 12" thick.
Typical applications are Machinery/Equipment components, Sprockets, Jigs, Fixtures, Molds.
